WINDS & BRASS
The Winds & Brass Department prepares students to achieve technical proficiency (tone production, intonation, articulation and rhythm) on their instruments. Through the application of a sequential curriculum, students learn to express themselves musically, develop musical responsibility and acquire the skills necessary to successfully participate in ensembles. In general, the Conservatory recommends students begin studying winds and brass at age 9 or later.
Individual Instruction
Individual lessons are available in 30, 45 or 60 minutes lengths, depending on student need and teacher recommendation. Individual lessons begin September 7th for Fall Quarter.
Folk Music Ensemble
A mixed-instrument and hand percussion ensemble that offers students the opportunity to study and perform music from Eastern Europeand and Middle Eastern Traditions. The course is open to youth grade 5 and above and adults playing at an intermediate level or higher. Wednesdays 5 - 6 pm..
Juries
Towards the conclusion of each school year, all non-adult students enrolled in private instrumental study participate in a juried performance evaluation. This jury offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their progress over the past year, and to receive feedback from a faculty panel. Departmental juries take place over the course of one week, and are scheduled in lieu of a lesson.
Recitals
The Winds & Brass Department also holds departmental solo recitals twice yearly. Throughout the school year, the Conservatory also regularly hosts student recitals. Students are recommended for these performances by their individual instructors. All non-adult students are expected to perform during the school year.
