VOCAL ARTS

With a focus on classical music, the Vocal Arts Department prepares each student to achieve his or her own individual vocal potential by developing proper breath management techniques and learning contrasting repertoire. Students age 9 and above may enroll in voice lessons.

Individual Instruction

Individual lessons are available in 30, 45 or 60 minutes lengths, depending on student need and teacher recommendation.

Voice Class

This class offers the opportunity for adult students, both beginners and those more advanced, to learn healthy vocal technique and exercises aimed at "growing" the voice. Singers are encouraged to learn and try out new repertoire (classical and musical theater) in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Juries

Towards the conclusion of each school year, all non-adult students enrolled in private instrumental study participate in a juried performance evaluation. This jury offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their progress over the past year, and to receive feedback from a faculty panel. Departmental juries take place over the course of one week, and are scheduled in lieu of a lesson.

Recitals

Throughout the school year, the Conservatory regularly hosts student recitals. Students are recommended for these performances by their individual instructors. All non-adult students are expected to perform during the school year.
