The
Pasadena Conservatory of Music's Summer Jazz Camp is an opportunity for
seventh to twelfth grade students to really learn jazz. The curriculum
includes theory and performance practice with an emphasis on improvisation.
Repertoire will range from the beginnings of jazz in the blues through
jazz's influence on other musical styles and its many echoes around the
world. Everybody in the class will participate at all times and share
in making music. All instruments are welcomed. The camp runs daily Monday
through Friday, July 13 to 24, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with a final concert
on July 24 at 7:00 PM. The Pasadena Conservatory of Music is located at
100 N. Hill Avenue, Pasadena. Tuition for the camp is $325. Auditions
are on June 9. Interested students should call 626-683-3355 to schedule
an audition.
