Outreach Programs

Each year, the Pasadena Conservatory devotes approximately 10% of its operating budget to providing access to the Conservatory's high-quality music instruction for the underserved in our community. Believing that every child deserves the opportunity to discover the music within him or herself, the Conservatory facilitates this discovery through tuition-free programs, financial aid and scholarships. The Conservatory provides music instruction to more than 3,000 students in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) and other San Gabriel Valley School districts annually through these ongoing outreach programs. Your gift to our outreach programs provides support for the following programs:

Young Musicians at Jefferson Elementary

All thirty-seven classrooms, pre-school through fifth grade, at Jefferson elementary receive 32 weeks of music education from Conservatory teachers employing the sequential curriculum of the Conservatory's signature Young Musicians program. YM at Jefferson meets state standards and greatly increases students' music literacy. Through this Orff-based instruction students learn the fundamentals of music, including melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics and expression.

Guitar For All

Low income students enrolled in San Gabriel Valley schools at the upper elementary and middle school level receive four quarters (44 weeks) of tuition free individual guitar instruction at the Conservatory. They also participate in a guitar orchestra that rehearses weekly and performs several times during the year. An instrument is provided rent-free. Guitar for All students are selected not only on financial need, but also on their commitment to music study and the guitar to participate in this multi-year program.
